Court Rules Against Foster Parents

This story breaks my heart. None of us can judge either family’s actions because it’s impossible to really know exactly what happened, who said what, what intentions were, etc. However, what must be remembered here is that a child who is now 8 years old, who has know no other life than that with the Bakers, is going to have her life turned upside down. Is that the right thing to do for this child?

It is sad for Mr. He to think that because Anna’s face is Chinese that she asks, “Where is my mom? Where is my dad?” After eight years with the Baker family, I doubt that she calls them anything other than Mom and Dad.

There are alarming statistics in the coverage of this story from KUTV in Salt Lake City. With 500,000 children in temporary care across America, is anyone really looking at what is best for these children. How can it be a healthy situation for anyone involved to live in limbo? Not knowing from one day to the next if they will be together tomorrow?

There just has to be a better way to ensure that children do not spend years and years in foster care waiting for court rulings that will decide their future…only to have another court rule for another future.
